Empowerment in Words

    Slut.
Why do people need to express the promiscuity of a woman as being a slut? Is it the lack of action they themselves are getting or is it the need to feel higher than a woman? I see a problem with it.
First of all, why does it start so early? And second of all what allows this to continue? I myself have been a subject to this kind of slander and that was Freshman year of high school. At this age, males, boys specifically, do not seem to comprehend the emotional and social impact of such a word. Around this age just seems to mark immaturity and for a lack of better word, stupidity.
But then why does this continue? Is it the continuing immaturity of the males and possible male superiority complex?
From this experience, it made me realize that in some way, words like bitch and slut are powerful. These words in a positive light are words that recognize women similar to their male counterparts. I mean that in the most positive way. Meaning that socially men are accepted more as the take charge type, does whatever he wants, and sleeps with whomever he wishes to. When women are slandered they're only called these names for their "male-like" behaviors.
Obviously they can be very degrading and everything else that comes with the power of the verbal or written word. But it honestly doesn't matter. Why should women let themselves be affected by the childish behaviors of these men who have taken it upon themselves to act that way towards women? I decided not to let things like this effect me because it's not how I think of myself. Sure sometimes I think to myself "I'm a bad bitch", but really it empowers me to do whatever I want without giving a shit about the assholes out there who make it their job to be an asshole.
Now why do guys even need to do this? I don't know and I probably will never get it. I can just speculate. Just don't hold it personal, ladies. Remember we mature faster, and also probably not any better.

Cheers,
Claire
