Joan Dobbie: Hatha Yoga Instructor and Enthusiast

Joan Dobbie. She was one of the best interviews I conducted in my Gateway to Media class last term. I am only posting this interview now because as a video, I wasn't very proud of it for one reason.
The time limit on the video was nuisance. It was suppose to be 60-90 seconds. However, more than 90 seconds of her interview was engaging, compelling, and really showed her charactered. I was kind of disappointed that I couldn't include more of her insights on yoga and how it has helped her.

Here is the video:

I think I managed to capture her passion for yoga. After all, making an interview as condensed as 90 seconds is getting to the point of who the person is and what they stand for.
Interviews always seem difficult. The one question that people seem to get and sometimes even I do too is "how will I be interested in this person?" and "how will I be able to get the answers I want?". The key is to write down questions beforehand to ensure that you are in the mentality of an interviewer and to ask your subject questions that force him or her to elaborate more on what is being said. I think its also vital that the interviewer really listens.
Some good advice I recieved last year was:
"The person in front of you is the most important person in the world."

Cheers,
Claire
