A Look At The Noruko Method of Kokeshi Doll-Making

It always fascinates me that there are people with such skill and precision. In current society, we no longer celebrate people having a skill like this.
Furniture making? It's called DIY Ikea.
Building your own computer? Just buy an overly expensive Apple Computer.
Develop your own film? #digitallife
Apprenticeship? Is that a synonym for internship?

It's important to keep skills such as the one presented in the video alive through the mediums we have now to show appreciation.

Cheers,
Claire

Herd in Iceland - trailer

HERD IN ICELAND - official trailer from Archerfish Productions on Vimeo.

Saw this today. It's a trailer for a documentary film about the horses in Iceland.
Already, the documentary looks like it will be superbly shot and very interesting.

The film makes me want to visit Iceland even more.
How about you?

Cheers,
Claire

John Lewis wins

If you have not seen this tearjerking ad on AdWeek:

I mean who doesn't love animated penguins?

Gah... this ad pulls so many strings of nostalgia. Remember getting the thing you wanted so much as a child? Yeah, John Lewis knows.

Rethinking what social media does for us

Hello all!
I am back from a good month long hiatus. I've been incredibly busy with being Director of Photography in a DuckTV production show as well as general school work.

To commemorate my return, I share with you this video I saw about social media use around three weeks ago:

I thought it was an excellent use of video to convey what social media has become to us or this matter, what technology has done. We are constantly glued to our mobile devices or dragging our laptops or tablets around.
After watching this video, I started to notice how my peers and other members of the community use their devices. We aren't able to really function or interact without that technological connection anymore.

It's time that you and I try to get off that laptop, that tablet, or that cell phone. It's time to reconnect (with the real world).

Cheers,
Claire

Videography as a Female

Insightful video about being a female in a male-dominant area of creativity: videography. A bit of background on the video; Cristina studied fashion merchandising in university and became interested in photography and videography at different times. I think she has really honed her skills. I personally have not experienced anything like she has. I probably haven't met these ego-filled men.
From her anecdotes, I sort of wonder if men really think that women cannot produce as high quality films or videos as men can. There is literally no difference. Women can be just as motivated, creative, and qualified as men. Maybe even more depending on where you go.

I know I want to go into production. It's probably one of the only things I do that I'm the most passionate about. All I can really do, with the fact that I may be discriminated by my gender, is to be the best videographer, producer, and etc I can be! And that's that.

Cheers,
Claire
